William (Billy) Nixon

This is a photograph of William (Billy) Nixon at the age of 12. He died in the Bethnal Green tube shelter disaster two years later.

Apparently Billy and his parents normally used the Liverpool Street shelter. However on that evening Billy wanted to go to the cinema. So his mother told him, if there is an air raid, to go to the Bethnal Green shelter as that was near to the cinema.

Sadly he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
